German is widely spoken in Europe, in countries such as: Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and, of course, Germany. It is one of the ten most spoken languages in the world. Germany is the biggest economy in Europe and the fourth biggest in the world. So, there are plenty of opportunities to use German in a wide range of industries and organisations. It is one of the top five business languages currently in demand in the UK.

This course aims to develop skills in comparing aspects of your own community and culture with German community and culture. You will also show an understanding of simple words and phrases in German. The optional units develop your language skills in different types of situation.
The course consists of one compulsory unit plus two optional units.
Compulsory Unit

Transactional Language (6 SCQF credit points)

Any two topics can be chosen from shopping, eating out, travel/touring, accommodation or an equivalent topic.
Language in Work (6 SCQF credit points)
In this unit you will :
Any two topics can be chosen from work (shops, café/restaurant, travel/tourism or hospitality).
You will be given practical work and other tasks to do when your teacher thinks you are ready. Your finished work should be kept in a folder. This is the record you keep of what you have done and how well you are doing.
If you do not pass a task first time you will be able to try again after more practice and help or advice from your teacher.
Your teacher will tell you how you are getting on. You will get the pass marked on your certificate.
You must pass all the required units to get the qualification.
