The University of Glasgow is one of Scotland’s four ancient universities, founded in 1451 and the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world. It has three campuses:

Courses and students

There is a wide range of degree combinations available, which are taught through four colleges: 

The university offers a huge range of undergraduate courses and is a centre for excellence in many areas, from languages and cultural studies to engineering and biological sciences. With over 700 flexible degree combinations available, students can study several subjects before choosing an honours specialism at the end of their second year. Many Glasgow students have the opportunity to study part of their degree abroad in their second or third year. 

The university has around 38,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students from more than 140 countries worldwide.

Facilities and Services

University facilities and services are extensive and include: two student unions, Glasgow University and Queen Margaret Unions; a 25 metre swimming pool; a sauna and steam room; indoor and outdoor sporting facilities; a sports shop; SkyTrak golf simulator; accommodation services; various catering outlets; a careers service; counselling services; over 50 sports clubs from American football to wakeboarding; an extensive library; and an IT helpdesk.

Ranking

Ranked 1st in The Guardian University Guide 2026 for Zoology, and 2nd for History of Art. Ranked 2nd in Scotland for Veterinary Science. 

In the Complete University Guide 2026: 1st for Nursing and Midwifery, 3rd for Food Science and 4th for Dentistry.

Ranked 1st in the UK for Animal Science, 4th for Law, and 5th for Medicine in The Times and Sunday Time Good University Guide 2026.

Ranked 101-150th in the Times Higher Education (THE) World Reputation Rankings 2026.
