The role of dental hygienists and dental therapists is varied. You will provide clinical and educational care in the community, including prevention, fillings and treatment for periodontal (gum) disease.. Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team are essential.
You will receive a thorough understanding in all aspects of dental care including the latest in practical skills and procedures. Delivered from our purpose-built dental buildings in Inverness, Stornoway and Dumfries, you will have access to state-of-the-art equipment and a highly skilled team of clinical and academic staff.
4 Highers at BBBB including a science subject, preferably Biology or Human Biology plus English at National 5 (if not held at Higher). Higher English preferred.
You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
There is a serious shortage of dental therapists working within the NHS and completion of the BSc Oral Health Science will enable you to take advantage of the many opportunities in the sector.
