This course is for you if you want to invest in dental nursing as a career choice but do not have the entry qualifications to study the HNC Dental Nursing. The course covers a broad range of routine dental subjects which have been purposefully written to develop the skills and expertise of a student dental nurse whilst affording opportunities to articulate onto higher level dental nursing programmes.

The course covers a range of dental topics relevant to a student Dental Nurse to include:
Decontamination of Reusable Dental Instruments; Health and Safety in a Dental Environment; Practicing as a Dental Nurse; Dental and Oral Anatomy; Personal Presentation and Protection; Cross Infection Control; Routine Dental Treatment ; Medicaments to Support Routine Dental Treatment; Charting the Dentition and Recording Periodontal Health; Cores skills: Communication, ICT and Numeracy.

Entry Requirements

2 subjects at National 5 including English; or Dental Nursing (Level 5). Interview and skills assessment.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.

You will be required to be immunised in line with Occupational Health's recommendation.

Progression Routes

HNC Dental Nursing or a Modern Apprenticeship in Dental Nursing.
