This course bridges the knowledge and skills gap between the Introduction to Dental Nursing (SCQF Level 4) and Dental Nursing (Level 6). It has been purposefully written to develop the skills and expertise of a student dental nurse studying at this level whilst affording opportunities to articulate onto the Level 6 Dental Nursing course.
The course also involves a placement within a dental environment where you will be supported by a New College Lanarkshire (NCL) dental work based assessor who will support you in placement and guide and observe the on the job skills you develop.
The foundation knowledge, skills and expertise associated with a variety of routine dental treatments to include:
Examination of the dentition; Practising as a dental nurse; Health and safety in a dental environment; Decontamination of reusable dental instruments; Cross infection control in a dental environment; Dental anatomy; Setting up for routine of dental treatments; Preparing a range of dental materials to support routine dental treatments; Personal presentation and protection for dental nurses; Core skills in communication, ICT and numeracy.
3 subjects at National 4 including English, or Introduction to Dental Nursing. You will attend an information session, skills assessment and interview.
You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
You will be required to be immunised in line with Occupational Health's recommendation.
