Would you like to become a doctor but are not sure whether you have studied the correct subjects or have high enough grades? Gateway to Medicine can help you make the best possible start to studying medicine if you do not meet the entry criteria for our MBChB Medicine course.
Gateway is a one-year course specifically designed to support you towards progressing on to the five-year Dundee MBChB course.
Maybe you haven't studied sciences (chemistry) to a high enough level (Higher or A-level) or perhaps your school grades have suffered due to hardship (adversity) in your personal or home or school life.

You'll also gain an additional qualification when you pass the Gateway year: A Certificate of Higher Education in Life Sciences (CertHE).
2023 entry requirements:
Premedical (Non Science Route):
5 Highers at AAAAB (first sitting) including not more than one science subject and excluding Chemistry plus English at National 5. Offers will be conditional on the attainment of 3 Advanced Highers or crash Highers in 6th year.
Premedical Widening Access:
4 or 5 Highers at ABBB or BBBBB including Chemistry and one other science subject plus English at National 5. Local school pupils with evidence of significant adversity.
All applicants will be expected to undertake the UCAT test before they apply.
All potential medical students are required to undergo screening for blood borne viruses (Hepatitis B and C, and HIV). You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course.
