If you are looking to pursue a career in a health profession which is both challenging and rewarding then this course is for you. You may be a school leaver who as yet, does not have the required entry qualifications to go direct to University.

The course is full time where you maybe able to top up your qualifications to make an application through UCAS to progress onto the first year of a Nursing degree or onto HNC Healthcare Practice which could lead to an Allied Health Profession related degree.

The course includes:

Communication NC, Literature 1 (Equivalent of Higher English); Numeracy; The units of Higher Care - Human Development and Behaviour, Social Influences and Values and Principles; Medical Terminology and Practical Skills; Biology; First Aid; Mental Health.

Entry Requirements

4 subjects at National 5 including English and Biology. Interview.

If your aim is to progress directly to University to study Nursing, in addition to the above you would require a minimum of 1 Higher and National 5 Maths (this doesn’t guarantee entry).

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.

Progression Routes

You can progress to SCQF Level 5 courses in Health and Social Care or other SCQF Level 5 courses at West Lothian College.
