The course is made up of 9 units, delivered over one year. The course promotes and provides you the values and skills required to work within a health care setting. It is delivered using a variety of teaching methods including tutorials, group work, self-directed study and simulation.
Units include:
Professional Standards for Care Practice; Therapeutic Relationships: Understanding behaviour; Safe Working Practice for Care; Clinical Skills for Care Practitioners; Sociology and Health in Scotland; Understanding Personal and Professional Development; The Human Body in Health and Illness; Healthcare Practice: Graded Unit 1; Exploring Mental Health.
2 Highers, preferably English and a science subject plus National 5 Maths, or Access to Nursing (SWAP), or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. Interview.
Interview and written test. You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
Students can progress on to university or into employment within the care field.
