The Access to Health, Paramedics & Nursing course is a full or part time programme (part of the Scottish Wider Access Programme – SWAP) designed for adults with life experience who are ready to return to education and pursue a future in the health sector.
You’ll develop the academic confidence, scientific knowledge and practical understanding needed for study and work in modern healthcare. Through a mix of theory, discussion and applied learning, you’ll explore the values of the NHS, the science of the human body, and the emotional intelligence required to care for others in high-pressure environments.
Course units include:
First Aid; Human Biology; Mental Health and Mental Illness; Values and Principles of Care; Human Development; Social Influences; Core Skills.
No formal entry requirements. however applicants should preferably have a gap in their formal education (3 or 5 years). You must be highly motivated and conscientious. Entry by informal interview and a short written exercise.
You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
This course is designed to enable adults with no formal qualifications to prepare, in one year, for entry for entry into a degree course in Nursing, or HNC Healthcare or in some cases HNC Social Care.
