In the first two years of your degree, you will gain a broad knowledge of subjects related to medical science and in scientific research methods. In addition, you will enhance your critical analysis abilities, while developing your interpersonal skills through team-working and oral/written communications.
Advanced knowledge of developmental biology will be acquired in the third and fourth years of the programme. Research in Developmental Biology is central to the search for cures for many human genetic diseases, including cancer, and is at the forefront of recent advances in modern medicine, which includes stem cell maintenance regeneration and tissue repair.

Second year: Physiology of Human Cells: Molecular Biology of the Gene: Human Anatomy A; Foundation Skills for Medical Sciences; Physiology of Human Organ Systems; Energy for Life; Human Anatomy B; Research Skills for Medical Sciences.
Third Year: Human Embryonic Development; Principles of Developmental and Reproductive Biology; Embryo to Organs; Genetics; Frontiers of Molecular Medical Sciences .
Fourth Year (Honours): Advanced Molecules Membranes and Cells (Stem Cells and Regeneration); Evolution and Development; Developmental Neuroscience; Medical Sciences Honours Research Project; Medical Science Data Analysis Paper; Medical Science General Essay Paper.
2026 entry requirements
Standard entry: 4 Highers at AAAB including two maths and science subjects (Biology preferred) plus English and Maths at National 5.
For advanced entry to year 2, you would require 3 Advanced Highers at AAB including Biology and Chemistry.
Widening access entry: 3 Highers at BBB including two maths and science subjects (Biology preferred) plus English and Maths at National 5.
1 Foundation Apprenticeship is accepted in place of a non-essential Higher.
