A unique link up between St Mirren Football Club and University of the West of Scotland (UWS) will see students broadcast live footage of the club’s games to the world.
Launching on Saturday, St Mirren TV will be entirely run by students taking courses in sports journalism, journalism, broadcast production and filmmaking at the University. The new online TV station will run alongside St Mirren Radio - also run by UWS students – although the live footage will only be available to view from outside the UK.
For the students, the stations will provide a valuable insight and hands-on experience of working on live broadcast productions, all while giving fans across the world a chance to take in dedicated live coverage of their games.
Leading the project from the University is senior journalism lecturer Elizabeth McLaughlin. She said: “We’re very excited to be announcing the launch of St Mirren TV. This partnership will give our students invaluable experience of working on a live, professional-standard product while also giving St Mirren’s fans outside the UK a dedicated channel with which to follow their team.
