UHI West Highland is an academic partner of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), providing learning opportunities to communities across the West Highlands of Scotland.
Although the college does not have a central campus, it has a wide network of 10 college centres across the region: Auchtertyre, Broadford, Fort William, Gairloch, Kilchoan, Kinlochleven, Mallaig, Portree, Strontian and Ullapool. Fort William runs the largest number of full time courses.
Courses and subjects
There are courses in a range of qualifications from introductory to degree level. Subject areas include: Adventure Studies; Beauty and Make-Up; Business and Administration; Construction and STEM; Computing and Creative Digital Skills; Creative and Visual Arts; Education and Childcare; Health and Social Care; Hospitality and Cookery; Humanities and Social Sciences; Land and Sea; Music and DJing and Transition to Skills and Education.
Facilities and services
The amenities available vary from centre to centre, but usually include computers with internet access, printing and copying facilities, study spaces and video conferencing equipment.
The Fort William Campus has a professional training kitchen and music recording studio. The Portree Campus also has a training kitchen, plus a hairdressing training salon, art studio and construction workshop.
Specialisms
The School of Adventure Studies, dedicated to outdoor and adventure related study, is based at Fort William, the outdoor adventure capital of the UK. The BA (Hons) Adventure Tourism Management is the only course of its kind in Scotland.
