Edinburgh Campus
First Year: Introduces Biology largely as Human Biology with accompanying modules in Applied and Environmental Biology. Additional subjects include Quantitative Techniques for Biologists and Chemistry as required for an understanding of future modules in Biochemistry and Physiology.
Second Year: Concentrates on broad topics in Biology; especially Whole Organism Biology of Animals, Plants and Microorganisms, and Cell Structure and Biochemistry.
Third Year: Brings specialisation in key areas such as Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering; Microbes and Disease; and Environmental Biology.
Fourth Year: You pursue a research project as the practical component of the course and may choose from a range of modules from various specialist degrees including Biochemistry, Brewing and Distilling, Food Science, Marine Biology and Microbiology as well as some designated Biology modules.
2021 entry requirements:
Standard entry: 4/5 Highers at AABB or ABBBB including one from Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Human Biology or Physics plus English and Maths at National 5.
Widening access entry: 4 Highers at BBBC including Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Human Biology or Physics at B plus English and Maths at National 5.
For entry to Level 2 you would require 2 Advanced Highers at BB including Biology or Human Biology plus 4 or 5 Highers at AABB or ABBBB.
