This HNC Applied Science (Pharmacology & Biomedical Science) course is delivered in partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) and offers motivated learners a supported route into second-year degree study.

Designed for students passionate about human biology, biochemistry, and molecular science, the course gives you the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in university-level science. You’ll study core topics such as Cell Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and Mathematics, combining classroom learning with extensive hands-on laboratory experience.

You will build up an excellent understanding of a broad range of scientific concepts and skills, including:

Cell Biology; Chemistry; Anatomy and physiology; Microbiology and Statistics; Mathematics; Biochemistry; Scientific Techniques; Dissertation writing.

You’ll work with professional laboratory equipment, build transferable analytical skills, and gain confidence in presenting your scientific findings.

Entry Requirements

Higher Biology (or Human Biology) or Chemistry plus English, Maths, Biology and Chemistry at National 5, or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6; or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6

Progression Routes

You will have the option to apply for 2nd year of most science courses at all universities. Graduates go on to study microbiology, immunology, virology and parasitology as well as many others. These courses will allow you to pursue many variable and exciting career paths such as a biomedical scientist, vaccine development scientist, clinical research scientist and many more.
