You'll take foundation classes in chemistry, mathematics, and physics or biology at introductory or advanced level. Classes in forensic science, drug discovery and chemical engineering are available depending on your degree choice.

Practical chemistry laboratory sessions help you to master basic preparative and analytical skills.

In later years, classes will include fundamental inorganic, organic, biological and physical chemistry.

In Year 4, you’ll specialise in the areas and applications that interest you most and undertake a research project and literature review.

2026 entry requirements

Standard entry:
4 Highers at ABBB or AABC including Maths and Chemistry at B. Higher English preferred. Advanced Higher Maths and Chemistry recommended.

Widening access entry:
4 Highers at ABBC or BBBB including Maths and Chemistry at B. Higher English preferred. Advanced Higher Maths and Chemistry recommended.

Entry to year 2 may be possible with Advanced Higher Maths, Chemistry and Biology or Physics at BBB.

A Foundation Apprenticeship is accepted in place of a non-essential Higher.
