This new and innovative two-year programme is a combination of units from National 5 level (SCQF 5) to HND (SCQF 8). Specifically, you will study Biology units ranging from SCQF Level 5 – 8, Chemistry units from SCQF Level 5 – 7, Physics units at Level 6, National 5 and Higher Maths units and Communications at Level 6.

The course also aims to provide you with the academic and personal skills required to study Medicine at University. This will include completing:

SWAP Preparation for Higher Education modules; A work experience unit; Personal development units including Meta Skills for Medicine as well as UCAT and interview preparation; and A medical issues research unit.

Entry Requirements

The Access programme is not intended for school leavers or graduates and all candidates should have been out of education for 3 years if you studied at National 5 Level and 5 years if you studied Highers.

Progression Routes

Successful completion of the two-year SWAP West Access to Medical Studies programme provides an entrance qualification to study MBChB Medicine at the University of Glasgow.

In addition, the programme provides a broad range of progression routes to: Pharmacy at Strathclyde University, Biomedicine and Oral health at Glasgow Caledonian University, and various Life Science Degrees including Anatomy, Bioscience, Forensic Science, Neurochemistry, Biomedical Science and Genetics with SWAP West university partners, UWS, Stirling and SRUC.
