Langside Campus
Access to Biological and Chemical Sciences is run in partnership with the Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP) and is designed for adults who have been away from education, typically for two years or more. You will be introduced to a range of science subjects to develop the skills and knowledge required for application to first year of a university degree programme or to a relevant HNC course at SCQF Level 7.
Subjects include: Biology (Higher Units); Chemistry (Higher Units); Maths (National 5 Units); Physics (National 5 Units); Communications (Higher); Information Technology.
Assessment will be continuous with a mixture of practical and theoretical assessments. There is no final examination.
No formal entry requirements. Applicants will usually have been out of full time education for at least 2 years and be able to demonstrate an aptitute for science. You will be invited to attend an interview.
Relevant HNC course.
1st year entry of Degrees relating to Chemistry or Biology, or in applied areas such as Biomedical/ Bioscience, Food Science, Marine Science, Marine Biology and Zoology.
SWAP partners include Glasgow University, Strathclyde University, Stirling University, UWS and GCU among others, although this qualification is also accepted by other universities throughout the UK who are not SWAP partners.
