In Semesters 1-4, you will study the following core modules: Cell Biology; Physiology; Genetics and Evolution; Ecology; and Biodiversity. In addition to the core modules, you will study Laboratory Skills and Statistics. You will take additional modules in other disciplines of your choice. These are often in Biological, Environmental or Aquatic Sciences.

Semesters 5-6 include modules in: Animal Physiology; Microbiology; and Animal Cell and Enzymes and their Applications. Students will also select additional modules such as: Advanced Marine Biology; Applied Immunology; Behavioural Ecology; Plant Ecology; and an Applied Biological Sciences placement.

In Semesters 7-8, you will undertake an independent research project and a number of advanced modules from a range of options, which currently include: Molecular Techniques; Omics and Systems Biology; Molecular Evolution and Phylogenetics and Biological Control Mechanisms; Cell Birth, Life and Death; Genetic Engineering, Immunology and Disease; and Proteomics.

Entry Requirements

2026 entry requirements:
4 Highers at ABBB including one from Maths, Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

For entry to the 3 year honours degree course, you would need 3 Advanced Highers at ABB including Biology and one from Chemistry, Geography or Physics.
