mathematics in an engineering context, enhancing your IT skills with relevant software packages; understanding electrical principles, from basic concepts to High Voltage (HV) generators; exploring direct current (dc) power supplies, transforming alternating current (ac) to dc, and studying transformers and rectifier circuits; investigating earthing and various earth fault current protection methods; developing skills in using electrical test equipment, ensuring correct and safe measurements in circuits and installations; mastering electrical wiring, installing and terminating PVC sheathed cables, mounting electrical accessories, and wiring simple electrical installations; studying key devices in electronics, their operations, and applications in various circuits and systems; gaining skills in using electronic test equipment, conducting measurements and tests on analogue and digital circuits; exploring combinational logic, delving into arithmetic circuits and data conversion circuits.
Throughout the course, build transferable Essential Skills, enhancing your effectiveness in communication, numeracy, ICT, teamwork, and problem-solving.
4 subjects at National 5 including Maths or Physics, or SVQ Performing Engineering Operations (Electrical) at SCQF Level 5, or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 5. Interview.
