The starting salary for an unqualified trainee smart meter engineer on the Trainee Smart Meter Installer Programme is normally between £18,000 and £22,000 a year. Once qualified this rises to around £30,000 a year. With experience, this can rise to £40,000 a year, sometimes more. There are usually other benefits, such as company pension and bonus schemes.
