This course will provide candidates with an introduction to a range of measurement and control engineering skills that are relevant to automated industries that use robotics and Industry 4.0 and process control industries.

Successful completion of the course will enable candidates to progress to advanced level study or find employment in a range of engineering sectors (e.g. oil and gas, automated manufacturing, chemical, pharmaceutical, medical, energy generation, food and drink).

Content includes:
Measurement technology: Pressure/Level; Measurement technology: Temperature; Measurement technology: Flow; Process control; Process control systems; Practical instrumentation skills; Fault finding in measurement and control systems; Hazards, protection methods and functional safety;
Signal conditioning; Programmable logic controllers; Robotic and automated systems; Complex control systems; Applying information technology; Mathematics technician 1; Communications

Entry Requirements

National 5 English, Maths and a science or technological subject (preferably Physics); or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 5. Interview.
