Pre-Apprenticeship - Electrical Installation

This programme is designed to produce a pool of prospective ‘apprentice' electricians ready and waiting to join the electrical contracting industry. The college has links with a large number of electrical contractors in the west of Scotland who successfully interview those who are proving their worth on this course, with 80% of students from last year's programme gaining employment.

Contents: Fundamental electrical principles; Basic electrical systems and protection; Introduction to renewables; Basic electrical installation skills; Installation project; Health and safety at work (appraisal gaining an ESC card); Computer aided design; Mathematics; Information technology.

Entry Requirements

3 subjects at National 5 including English and Maths and preferably Physics or another science or technological subject. Successful pass on SECTT test an advantage.

Progression Routes

Modern Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation (SVQ at SCQF Level 7). HNC Electrical Engineering.
