This programme is designed to produce a pool of prospective ‘apprentice' electricians ready and waiting to join the electrical contracting industry. The college has links with a large number of electrical contractors in the west of Scotland who successfully interview those who are proving their worth on this course, with 80% of students from last year's programme gaining employment.

Contents: Fundamental electrical principles; Basic electrical systems and protection; Introduction to renewables; Basic electrical installation skills; Installation project; Health and safety at work (appraisal gaining an ESC card); Inspection and testing; Mathematics; Information technology.

Entry Requirements

National 5 English and Maths or Physics.

Progression Routes

Modern Apprenticeship in Electrical Installation (SVQ at SCQF Level 7). HNC Electrical Engineering.
