Perth College UHI, Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
This unique new course is the only one of its kind in Scotland and is designed to produce graduate-calibre aircraft maintenance engineers.
The course meets the requirements of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) category B1 or B2 aircraft maintenance engineering licence syllabus (Part-66). Delivered in conjunction with AST, the oldest aviation training organisation of its type in the world, it provides you with the opportunity to obtain a training certificate in addition to an honours degree. This will reduce the amount of live aircraft work experience you must obtain before applying for a category B, aircraft maintenance engineer licence. Obtaining a category B licence is the first step on the path to becoming a certifying, licensed aircraft engineer, a person responsible for signing-off (certifying) the work carried out on aircraft and their systems and equipment.
The course is taught by staff with industrial experience both in military and civilian environments. You will combine academic and technical knowledge, understanding and skills with the personal qualities and leadership skills needed to succeed in this dynamic industry.
In years one and two, you will develop hand and maintenance skills alongside essential academic knowledge in areas such as maths, aerodynamics and propulsion. In the third year, you will be introduced to management and the wider knowledge and skills required by the aviation industry. In your final year you will complete a capstone project which will give you the opportunity to showcase all of the skills you have acquired.
3 Highers at BCC including Maths (Physics or Engineering Science at B if Maths not held at B) plus National 5 Physics at B and English necessary; or Foundation Apprenticeship Engineering; or relevant NC plus National 5 Physics at B and English necessary.
Entry to year 3 may be possible with an approved EASA Part-66 Category B qualification; or a full Category B Licence.
