This course introduces you to the many different aspects of aeronautical engineering and how flight is achieved. It’s mainly a theory based course, although there are some practical modules too.

The course looks at the fundamentals of aeronautical engineering, including common aircraft types, aircraft assemblies, thrust production and the theory of flight.

You will: explore the theory of flight in more detail; look at aircraft systems, including mechanical, fluid, electrical and avionic; focus on engineering dynamics; develop your maths knowledge within an aeronautical engineering context; develop skills in basic aircraft maintenance operations.

Entry Requirements

4 relevant subjects at National 5 including Maths and Physics; or relevant national qualifications at SCQF level 5. Entry by interview.

Progression Routes

Progression on to a wide range of relevant vocational courses at SCQF Level 7 or employment.
