BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering focuses on industry-relevant topics to reflect the needs of today’s employers, giving you the opportunity to build a successful career in the design, engineering and manufacturing sectors.

You will gain knowledge of scientific and engineering principles and take a flexible approach towards new ideas and developments. You will hone your practical skills by using our industry-standard equipment and software for computer-aided engineering design, manufacture and analysis and failure investigations. Increased emphasis is placed on sustainable engineering – establishing you as an attractive candidate to prospective employers.

2024 entry requirements
Standard entry:
4 Highers at BBBC including Maths at B plus National 5 Physics at B and English.

Entry to year 2 is possible with 3 Advanced Highers at CCD including Maths and Physics plus English at National 5.

Widening access entry:
4 Highers at BBCC including Maths at B plus National 5 Physics at B and English.

Progression Routes

Career areas are varied and include design, research and development, analysis, manufacture and project management. Previous graduates have been employed by many leading companies such as Rolls-Royce, Doosan-Babcock Energy Ltd, ABB Alsthom Power, Intel, Hoover, Candy and Biosil.
