Lews Castle College UHI is a partner college of the University of the Highlands and Islands. It offers over 100 full time and 100 part time courses to over 2,000 students across four campuses.
The main campus is located in Stornoway, with local centres in Barra, Benbecula and North Uist. The college also delivers courses in Argyll and Lochaber and throughout the Highlands and Islands in partnership with other UHI colleges.
Plans for a new academy to address the growing need for a highly trained, professional and sustainable workforce within the Outer Hebrides care sector are being developed by Lews Castle College UHI.
Courses and subjects
There are courses in a range of qualifications, from introductory to degree and postgraduate level study. Vocational and industry qualifications are also available.
Courses are offered in the following subject areas: Arts, Humanities and Social Science, Business and Leisure, Computing and IT, Creative and Cultural Industries, Education and Child Care, Energy, Engineering and Construction, Gaelic Medium Studies, Health and Wellbeing, Science and Environment.
Facilities and services
The Stornoway Campus has a student common room with LCD TV and a refectory for snacks and drinks. There is also a child care centre. All campuses are located within communities with good facilities such as sports centres, swimming pools, libraries and arts centres.
There is also a student services team, providing guidance on a range of issues, and the Student Association which is affiliated to the National Union of Students.
Lews Castle College UHI offers a wide range of courses suitable for many career paths, but in taking advantage of the area’s culture and history, there are a number of specialist courses available for Gaelic, Highlands and Islands culture and literature and Celtic studies.
