Studying for a Foundation Apprenticeship gives you the chance to combine work based qualifications such as Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) or National Certificate (NC) with practical work experience in industry.
The Foundation Apprenticeship (FA) in Scientific Technologies (Laboratory Skills) is for pupils to begin in S5 and to complete in S6.
Relevant subjects at National 5 including science subjects. It is recommended that you work towards a science subject at Higher by the end of S6.

In year 1, three units from the National Certificate (NC) in Applied Sciences at SCQF Level 6 or the National Progression Award (NPA) in Laboratory Science are studied.
In year 2, five units from the Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities at SCQF Level 6 are studied.
