Kirkwall
Based in the art studios of UHI Orkney, this course enables students to explore and develop a wide range of art and design skills including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, digital imaging, design and textiles. Alongside the practical studio work, there are artist talks, visits to exhibitions and contextual studies throughout the course.
Professional skills are developed throughout, often alongside 'live projects'. These have involved the Pier Arts Centre, the St Magnus International Festival, the Orkney Folk Festival and Sheila Fleet Jewellery. Students are encouraged to engage with the unique environment, culture and history of Orkney, as well as look outwards to the wider cultural context.
2 subjects at National 5; English and Art and Design preferred. A portfolio of art and design work should be shown at interview. Those wishing to articulate to a degree course should have 4 Highers.
