On this project work based course, you will be encouraged to experiment with a wide variety of materials and techniques to develop the skills necessary to pursue a career in the fashion or textile industries. The course is taught by a dedicated team of professionals with a breadth of experience within the creative industries.

Throughout the course, you will be encouraged and guided to develop your own practice by combining practical skills, drawing and design development and the awareness of its application within the creative industries. You will learn a broad range of skills that will be applicable to a variety of creative career pathways.

Content:
Screen printing for both fashion and interiors; Fabric manipulation and surface decoration skills; Machine and hand embroidery; Drawing and media exploration in relation to design development; Knitted and woven textiles; Construction technical skills; Sketch book development and exploration; Design process; Digital imaging and its application in design; Creative research and its context in design; Live industry awareness projects in collaboration with high profile companies; Sustainability; Communication skills.

Entry Requirements

1 Higher in an art related subject; or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. You would be expected to present a portfolio of your work at interview.

Progression Routes

2nd or 3rd year of a relevant degree programme or employment in the textile industry; Modern Apprenticeship within the textile sector.
