Newtown St Boswells Campus
This course provides students with the opportunity to study the basics of amenity horticulture, whilst also gaining valuable work experience within the field of horticulture. This broad ranging course offers students the knowledge and skills necessary to become competent in the following areas of horticulture: Operating Horticultural Machinery, Using Plant Growing Techniques, Plant and Grass Maintenance.
In addition, students work on community planting projects and are encouraged to participate in a student enterprise project where the funds raised are used for an end of year residential excursion.
Individual units include: Maintain Safe and Effective Working Practices, Assist with Planting and Establishing Plants, Assist with Maintaining Plants, Assist with the Maintenance of Grass Surfaces, Assist with the Maintenance of Equipment, Assist with Maintaining Structures and Surfaces, Work Experience and Core Skills.
Demonstrate an ability to study at SCQF Level 4 or above.
SVQ Horticulture at SCQF Level 5.
