Scottish School of Forestry
This course will provide attendees a broad range of opportunities to learn and develop new skills specifically designed for the woodland and rural environment.
Introducing basic research and data collection and recording activities; an understanding of how different habitats and activities interact and why; getting hands on practical experience for basic tool and machinery use; working independently and within a team; encourage innovation, empathy, creativity and an enquiring mind.
Ideally suited those who wish to venture into forestry, conservation, arboriculture, estate and rural vocations. Even laying the basis for ecological, environmental and other land based avenues.
Units may include:
Introduction to and understanding of Health & Safety; Construction and maintenance of Woodland and rural features; Understanding and developing skills for employment; Exploring and understanding the rural environment and associated habitats; Basic tool maintenance and use; Basic tree and plant identification; Introduction to maintenance and use of machinery; Practical rural activity; Forestry related studies.
Preferably working towards English, Maths, Biology and Geography at National 4.
Related courses at SCQF Level 5 and above.
