Modern Apprenticeships might be right for you if you prefer to learn from hands-on experience, and would prefer part time rather than full time study. Being able to earn while you learn is another plus point.
The Modern Apprenticeship in Power Distribution is available at SCQF Level 5.
Learn the skills and knowledge necessary to work in the power distribution industry. You would learn how to maintain and replace the networks that transfer electricity including overhead and underground cables. You would also learn about renewable energy and how it is being used more and more to produce electricity.
Anyone living in Scotland who is over school leaving age can apply. Sometimes employers set an upper age limit, as the Scottish Government doesn’t always fund training for those aged over 24.
You would check this with individual employers.
No formal entry requirements. You should be interested in mechanical, electrical and physical equipment. You should have correct colour vision due to the nature of this job.
You will achieve the relevant Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ), Diploma or other competency based qualification. In addition, you work towards core skills and complete industry specific training.
You should complete this apprenticeship in 12 to 24 months.
