Modern Apprenticeships might be right for you if you prefer to learn from hands-on experience, and would prefer part time rather than full time study. Being able to earn while you learn is another plus point.
The Modern Apprenticeship in Housing is available at the following levels:
You will develop the skills and knowledge to help people find the right place to live, which suits their needs. You will learn about regulations relating to housing benefit entitlements, tenant health and safety and energy inspections and how to communicate effectively and deal with difficult situations.
Anyone living in Scotland who is over school leaving age can apply. Sometimes employers set an upper age limit, as the Scottish Government doesn’t always fund training for those aged over 24.
You would check this with individual employers.
For entry to the SCQF Level 6 apprenticeship, there are no formal entry requirements. To gain entry to the SCQF Level 7 apprenticeship, although there are no formal entry requirements, it is aimed at employees who already have completed the SCQF Level 6 apprenticeship, or who have relevant national qualifications or experience.
You will achieve the relevant Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ), Diploma or other competency based qualification. In addition, you work towards core skills and complete industry specific training.
This apprenticeship will take between 1-2 years to complete.
If you start an apprenticeship at SCQF Level 5 or 6, you may be able to progress to a higher level, if available. You could also progress into a related job.
