Ayrshire College was formed in August 2013 following a merger between Ayr College, James Watt College (North Ayrshire) and Kilmarnock College.
Designed to serve the whole of Ayrshire, the college has three main campuses in Ayr, Kilmarnock and Kilwinning, with around 11,000 students and 900 staff.
Courses and subjects
Courses offered range from introductory programmes to HND level. All programmes are aimed at preparing students for work, and many include placements so that students can gain relevant work experience. Some courses provide direct entry into degree programmes at a number of universities.
Courses at the college are divided into the following departments: Aeronautical; Arts and Fashion; Business; Computing; Construction Technology; Early Years; Engineering; Hair; Beauty; Complementary Therapies and Make-Up Artistry; Health and Social Care; Horticulture; Hospitality, Tourism and Events; Motor Vehicles; Music and Sound; Performing Arts; Photography and Media; Professional Cookery; Science; Social Science; Sport and Fitness; Supported Learning; Teaching/Training; Trades; and The Hive.
Facilities and services
Each campus has a great range of facilities including student services, refectories and even training restaurants run by hospitality students. All three campuses have training salons offering treatments to the public. There is an Aeronautical Engineering Training Centre at the Ayr Campus.
There is also the Skills Centre of Excellence based at Irvine, which offers courses in Sport and Fitness.
