Philosophy has been at the core of Western intellectual life for at least 2,500 years. It is central to our understanding of the world and our interaction with it. Philosophy gives you the skills to think about great philosophical questions in a clear and systematic way.
Psychology is an experimental and observational science. It uses evidence from research studies to develop and evaluate theories.
Year 1:
Year 1 courses will include topics in the following areas - Ethics, History of Philosophy (Western and non-Western traditions), Logic and Philosophy of Science.
Through lectures and tutorials, you will complete a general introduction to psychology, covering - cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, differential psychology, biological psychology and social psychology.
Year 2:
You will take courses in areas, such as - Epistemology, Metaphysics, Philosophy of Language and Philosophy of Mind.
To prepare you for Year 3, you will focus on developing your skills in research methods, statistics and
R programming.
Year 3:
In philosophy, these include topics related to areas of the subject, such as language, cognition and science, morality and value, knowledge and reality and history of philosophy.
You will choose advanced courses in psychology. These will expand on and combine the core areas required for British Psychological Society (BPS) accreditation.
Year 4:
You will choose courses from a wide variety available.
You will also complete either of the following - an independent dissertation on a philosophy or psychology topic of your choice, or a coursework dissertation through two extended essays in philosophy.

Standard entry:
5 Highers at AAAAA (by end of S5 preferred) including Maths (or Applications of Maths), Computing Science, Geography, Psychology or an approved science subject plus English at National 5 at C, Maths at A or Maths and Physics at B.
Widening access entry:
4 Highers at ABBB (by end of S6) including Maths (or Applications of Maths), Computing Science, Geography, Psychology or an approved science subject plus English at National 5 at C, Maths at A or Maths and Physics at B. Highers at BBB must be achieved in one sitting.
