This Course provides a broad based study of topics in Early Education and Childcare. You will engage in a significant placement experience in an early years setting which involves observing children and planning, implementing and evaluating effective play experiences.

Your course topics will allow you to learn about children’s development and the theories that underpin this, influences on mental health and wellbeing, supporting language, literacy and numeracy, and the promotion of children's rights.

Entry Requirements

3 subjects at National 5 including English; or Certificate in Early Education and Childcare (Level 5); or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 5. Entry is subject to interview and pre-entry test.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.

Progression Routes

Possible progression to areas of study to HNC Childhood Practice, university or employment. This course is recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) for registration requirements at support worker level within a childhood practice setting.
