Content

This course provides a theoretical background to working with children, as well as developing practical skills. It relates to care, learning and development of children and takes an overall look at the study of children in early education and childcare settings.

Learn more about the theory and practice of working with children and young people through:

Child development; Wellbeing and Safeguarding; Developmental theory; Play; Communication; Services for Children and Young People; Workplace experience.

You will have the opportunity to go on a work placement in a variety of childcare settings for 40 days of your course.

Entry Requirements

4 subjects at National 5 including English, or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 5. You may also be required to attend for interview.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
