South Lanarkshire College is proud to be offering the new Next Generation HNC Childhood Practice qualification. Our professional lecturing team has been involved in the journey of creating this new qualification which will equip you to become a practitioner, supporting children to reach their full potential in the ever changing world in which we live.

This qualification will replace the current HNC Childhood Practice qualification become the industry standard for Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) Practitioners.

Over the course of the academic year you will study a wide variety of topics including:

Pedagogy and how to develop your teaching practices, How to support children with Additional Support Needs, The impact that trauma can have on children, Theories relating to child development, International approaches to learning, The Rights of Children and Young People, and Reflective Practice.

You will also gain three SVQ units during your studies. SVQ units relate mainly to your practical experience , You will also be observed in placement to gain this element of your qualification.

Entry Requirements

2 Highers; or Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services (Children and Young People); or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. Interview.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
