Early Education and Childcare (Level 6)

This course provides an integrated programme of theory and practice at Level 6 and aims to enable you to work effectively in certain posts within the field of Early Education and Childcare.

Subjects include: Communication; Developing an Understanding of Working with Children; Developing an Understanding of Working with Children: Workplace Experience; Child Development Theory; Services for Children and Young People; First Aid; Guidance; HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C Infections; Play in Early Education and Childcare; Play in Practice; Optional units; Supporting ICT in Early Years units.

Entry Requirements

4 subjects at National 5 including English; or NQ Childcare (Level 5); interview.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.

Those with few/no qualifications will also be considered in relation to any work/voluntary experience they may have with children and young people.

Progression Routes

Relevant HNC or SVQ course. Employment as a nursery assistant.
