The course blends theory and practice to help you understand the complexities of human behaviour, care values, and professional ethics — all essential for supporting individuals, families, and communities in diverse care settings.
This qualification incorporates three SVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care units and includes a substantial practical placement, giving you first-hand experience of professional practice. It also meets the standards required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), an essential step for working within the care sector.

Care in Contemporary Society, Leadership Starts with Me, Health, Wellbeing and Safeguarding, Lifespan Development Theoretical Approaches, Care Practice, Graded Unit, Understanding Loss and the Process of Grief, Understanding and Supporting Behaviour, Mental Health Issues in a Care Setting, Plus 3 SVQ units.
NC Health and Social Care (Level 6); or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6.
You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
The course may allow students to progress to University, particularly degree courses in Social Work, and can also lead to progression to mental health nursing.
