Content

This course combines theory and practical work experience in an early years setting. You will gain an understanding of the key issues involved in caring for young children, including their needs and how to provide for development and education from birth onwards.

On successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to seek employment and register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) at support worker level. Visit the SSSC for more information about registration requirements.

You will study: Child development; Child development: theory; Services for children and young people; Supporting children’s rights and entitlements; Supporting children’s behaviour; Play in early education and childcare.

Entry Requirements

5 subjects at National 5 including English at A or B, or Intermediate Certificate: Early Learning and Childcare (incorporating National Progression Award: Playwork and Childcare), or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 5. Interview.
