This course is aimed at those who wish to gain employment as an early learning and childcare practitioner. This sector is expanding and demand for qualified early years staff is likely to remain high. The course will provide the student with a wide knowledge of the factors which influence children's care and their learning and development.

Students will gain an understanding of the principles, values and legislation underpinning early years practice.

The course also provides opportunities to relate theory to practice with a weekly practical placement (usually two days each week), which will give candidates the opportunity to see first-hand how early years settings operate.

Subjects include:
Care in Contemporary Society; Leadership Starts with Me; Health Wellbeing and Safeguarding; Lifespan Development Theoretical Approaches; Promote Effective Communication; Promote Health, Safety and Security in the Work setting; Develop your Practice through Reflection and Learning; Graded Unit 1; Support for Play Learning and Development; Promoting Language Literacy and Numeracy; Supporting Children and Young Peoples Behaviour; Working with Children 3-6.

Entry Requirements

2 Highers including English plus 2 subjects at National 5 including Maths plus relevant work experience; or Foundation Apprenticeship Social Services (Children and Young People); or NC Childhood Practice plus relevant work experience; or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. Interview. You will also be required to participate at an information session.
