This course will provide students with the opportunity to improve their general education and further their understanding of the needs of children and the skills required to care for them. Students follow a programme involving the study of care in a range of settings, with a particular emphasis on child care and play work. This course provides a great opportunity to gain nationally recognised group awards. A mandatory placement opportunity will be provided to students who demonstrate appropriate skills and values.
You will learn about psychology for care, and child development and health. You will also learn about the care and feeding of children, and the importance of the process of play. You will also look at essential elements of first aid, and develop fundamental skills in literacy, numeracy and IT.
2 subjects at National 5 preferably including English plus 4 subjects at National 4. A genuine aptitude for working with children is essential. Evidence of a minimum of 20 hours volunteering or a placement within an early years environment is also required.
