This course helps you to develop the knowledge and skills required to operate effectively at supervisory level in the Hospitality Industry. The first year covers a range of subjects, both practical and theoretical. The second year focuses on providing you with the necessary managerial knowledge and skills for a junior management position.

This HND is a valuable qualification for employment in an exciting and ever-changing industry, as well as a good preparation for further studies.

Year 1:

Alcoholic beverages; Accommodation servicing; Creating a culture of customer care; Food and beverage service; Food production; Food hygiene (REHIS intermediate); Front office procedures; Graded unit 1; Hospitality industry; Hospitality financial and control systems; Hospitality supervision; and Using software applications packages.

Year 2:

Accommodation management; Hospitality management accounting; Graded unit 2; Licensed premises operations; Managing human resources in Hospitality 1 and 2; Managing hospitality operations 1 and 2; Managing food and beverages operations; Managing financial resources; and Work placement.

Entry Requirements

2 relevant Highers, or NQ Hospitality Operations, or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF 6. Interview.

Progression Routes

Successful students can progress onto a relevant degree at Edinburgh Napier University, Glasgow Caledonian University, Queen Margaret University or University of the West of Scotland
