BEng in Mechanical Engineering is a direct route to university. You will learn a range of modules including Thermofluids and Engineering Principles. These will be taught at a high level allowing you to develop transferable skills which are essential for your future engineering career. Your studies will include Higher National (HN) units on mechanical engineering subjects which will broaden your knowledge of the mechanical engineering industry.

This course combines advanced engineering techniques with hands-on learning. You will learn essential skills required to solve mechanical engineering problems in a wide variety of industries such as; traditional energy, renewable energy, manufacturing, transport and materials.

In year one you will follow HNC Mechanical Engineering. On successful completion of year one modules you will progress to year two. Year two follows the HND in Mechanical Engineering. You will complete your third and fourth year as a mechanical engineering student at Heriot-Watt University or Edinburgh Napier University.

Entry Requirements

Higher Maths and Physics or an engineering science-based subject; or NC Engineering Systems (Level 6); or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. You may be required to attend and interview and complete an aptitude test.
