This course has been designed for those seeking a career in mechanical engineering or those who are already working in the field to enhance their skills, knowledge and employability in this branch of engineering.

You will take part in a range of workshop activities such as milling, turning and welding alongside the theory and classroom subjects required of engineering professionals in the modern workplace.

On successfully completing this course, you can progress onto a SCQF level 6 programme in an engineering subject or seek employment, typically at technician level as a junior machinist or fabricator / project engineer.

This course is ideal if you are contemplating a career in the manufacturing, fabrication, machining and servicing industries. Alternatively, this course is a good first step towards higher education in the engineering subject area.

Entry Requirements

3 subjects at National 4 including English and Maths, or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 4.

Progression Routes

On successful completion of this course you can progress onto NC Engineering Systems (Level 6), specialising in either mechanical or electronic engineering.
