If you are thinking about a career in computer networking, this is the perfect place to start. This practical course offers a range of exercises that will challenge and prepare you for study.

The course covers a range of networking disciplines; from cabling to firewall configuration. You will also work as part of a team to design and build a physical network. You will be taught data security, security fundamentals, computer systems architecture and server administration fundamentals and troubleshooting desktop operating systems which are highly desirable skills in the computing industry.

Subjects Include:
Server administration fundamentals: setting up and securing Microsoft Windows Server in a domain environment; Data security: learning about the CIA Triad and how this applies to the UK’s GDPR Laws; Security fundamentals: learn about the security requirements of today’s IT systems and how to apply best practices; Troubleshoot desktop operating systems: learn the required skills to successfully troubleshoot and diagnose common issues with Microsoft Windows.

Entry Requirements

2 subjects at National 5 including Computing Science or another relevant subject; or relevant national qualification at SCQF Level 5
