This course provides both the practical skills and theoretical knowledge that employers require students to have in order to carry out a wide range of business related jobs. The objective of the course is to provide a broad understanding of business and the business environment. There is a key focus on developing skills in advanced IT and digital technologies.
In addition, it develops entrepreneurial, organisational and inter-personal skills including leadership, motivation and team working.
Subjects studied provide a global understanding of business, marketing and consumer issues, whilst looking at core business issues.
Year 1:
Marketing; Economics; Spreadsheets; Word Processing and Presentations; Databases; Accounting for Business; Managing People and Organisations; Business Fundamentals with Emerging Technologies; Business Communication; Graded Unit 1.
Year 2:
Managing Business Culture and Strategy; Project Management; Economics; Business Law; Preparing Financial Forecasts; Advanced Word Processing; Advanced Spreadsheets; Advanced Databases; Work Placement; Research Skills; Graded Unit 2.
2 relevant Highers, or Foundation Apprenticeship Business Skills, or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. Relevant experience or other qualifications will be considered. Entry subject to interview.
Forth Valley College has formal articulation links in place for entry into year 3 of relevant degrees at a number of universities.
