This BSc (Hons) Bioscience offers skills and practical experience in subjects including biology, biochemistry, genomics, laboratory practice and instrumentation, and focuses on recent advances in a range of scientific fields.

Year 1 - CertHE
Principles of biology; Fundamental chemistry; Science laboratory skills; Collecting and analysing data; Scientific techniques; Plus 1 option in semester 2.

Year 2 - DipHE
Biochemistry and molecular biology; Chemistry for bioscience; Principles of instrumentation; Microbiology; Advanced science lab skills; Advanced science techniques.

Year 3 - BSc
Applications in bioscience; Developmental biology; Research skills and project; Introduction to data science and modelling; Plus 1 option in semester 1.

Year 4 - BSc (Hons)
Recent advances in bioscience 1; Recent advances in bioscience 2; Omic technologies for biosciences; Plus 1 option in both semester 1 and semester 2; Dissertation.

Entry Requirements

3 Highers at BCC including 2 science subjects, Maths preferred, plus National 5 Maths and Chemistry; or Foundation Apprenticeship Food and Drink Technologies plus Higher English and Biology or Chemistry plus National 5 Maths; or Foundation Apprenticeship Scientific Technologies (Laboratory Skills) plus 1 Higher in a science subject plus National 5 Chemistry.

Advanced entry to Year 2 is possible with HNC Applied Science.
