Abertay University was originally founded as the Dundee Technical Institute in 1888. It lies right in the heart of Dundee city centre, and all its campuses are within a quarter of a mile of each other.

Courses and students

The university is based around four schools and a range of specialist centres.
 
School of Business, Law and Social Science is Tayside’s leading provider in business and management education. 
Graduate School provides support, training and professional development opportunities to the postgraduate community.
School of Design and Informatics provides a range of computer games and digital media courses and incorporates the Scottish University Centre for Excellence in Computer Games Education. 
School of Applied Science provides full and part time programmes as well as research in a wide range of disciplines. 
 
The university offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Abertay is well known for its world-leading courses in computer arts and computer games technology and launched the world’s first Ethical Hacking degree.

It is also among Scotland’s top leading universities for biomedical and civil engineering.
 
There are around 4,500 students, representing 66 countries.

Facilities and services

Abertay University has many great facilities to offer its students including White Space located on the ground floor of the university’s Kydd Building; the award winning Bernard King Library which includes fully equipped seminar rooms, study rooms and a language centre; a Student Centre which is the cultural and social hub of the city campus; and Sport@Abertay, which plays an important part of university life, with over 20 sports clubs on offer. The Hannah Maclure Centre provides an informal and cultural space for students including a state-of-the-art cinema and performance stage and the Students’ Association offers a wide range of societies covering all interests.

Ranking

Abertay University is ranked in the top 10 for teaching quality in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020.

The prestigious Princeton Review (2020) rankings show Abertay is the top institution in Europe for undergraduate games education and is in the global top 10 at postgraduate level.
